Troop Operation
Adult leadership includes the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, and Merit Badge Counselors. These are positions of responsibility that
require training in the Boy Scout Program as well as knowledge and expertise in content areas and leadership skills. Adult Leaders are registered with BSA.
Scout leadership is through the PLC (Patrol Leaders Council), consisting of the SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), 2 ASPLs (Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders), Patrol
Leaders and Troop Scribe. The SPL and Patrol Leaders are elected positions; ASPLs are appointed by the SPL and the Scribe is a volunteer position, approved by the Scoutmaster.
These leaders do the planning and handle the basic operation of the troop under the supervision of trained adult leaders. Elections are held every 6 months.
Other leadership positions within the troop include Quartermaster, Librarian, Chaplain’s Aide, Troop Guides, Instructors, and Den Chiefs.
The Scoutmaster can identify leadership positions or projects as needed by the troop.
Annual Planning & Troop Calendar
The troop calendar is planned by the PLC, with adult guidance, each year in July
and August. Council and school calendars are included in the planning process. The troop makes every effort to participate in Council-sponsored events and to
schedule troop events around major school activities. All troop activities must include adequate adult supervision.
To get an idea of the activities of the troop throughout the year, please see the Annual Cycle of Troop Events
