Position Title / Expectations

Description

Scoutmaster (Gary Marquardt)

Registered as Scoutmaster; must be trained and have experience in Scouting program.  Regular attendance at meetings, campouts; leads monthly ASM, PLC and Committee meetings; attends District Roundtable whenever possible

Adult leader responsible for the program and image of the troop. Trains and guides boy leaders. Works with other responsible adult leaders. Uses methods of Scouting to achieve aims of Scouting.

 

Assistant Scoutmasters

Regular attendance at meetings, campouts; attends monthly ASM meetings and District Roundtable whenever possible.

Help Scoutmaster with program. May serve in specific role, working with First Year Scouts, High Adventure, etc.

Committee Chair (Rick Amori)

Committee Member; leads monthly Troop Committee, and ASM  meetings. Attends troop meetings or arranges for coverage

Ensures resources for program. Liaison between Scoutmasters, Committee, District/Council. Recruits adult volunteers to keep the troop running.

Advancement Chair (Susan Firehammer )

Committee Member; attends monthly Troop Committee meetings. Attends troop meetings or arranges for coverage.

Tracks Scouts progress through ranks, documents advancement, honors, service hours and merit badge completion. Keeps list of current merit badge counselors and supply of merit badge card applications (blue cards). Helps PLC plan Courts of Honor and Eagle Courts of Honor. Maintains Troopmaster database and communicates advancement to Council.

Outdoor Chair (Dan Ouellette)

Committee Member; attends monthly Troop Committee meetings. Attends troop meetings or arranges for coverage.

Can be co-Chaired.

Assists Scoutmaster and PLC to coordinate camping and trips the troop takes. Makes reservations, coordinates transportation, permission forms, health forms, tour permits, flyers and sign-ups for events. Advises PLC when annual calendar is set.

Membership Chair (Lisa Henes, Elaine Dew and Chris Amori)

Committee Member; attends monthly Troop Committee meetings. Attends troop meetings or arranges for coverage.

 

Collects/Distributes applications and health forms; maintains membership data in Troopmaster; assists with annual recruiting and rechartering activities.

 

Training Chair

Committee Member; must be trained and use Troopmaster.

Tracks Adult Leader training participation and communicates training needs and opportunities.

Treasurer (Elaine Albin)

Committee Member; attends monthly Troop Committee meetings. Attends troop meetings or arranges for coverage as needed.

Maintains troop accounts, Scout accounts, generates checks, collects checks, tracks receipts and reports monthly activities at the Troop Committee meeting. Develops annual budget with input from Scoutmaster, PLC and Committee.

Secretary (Robin Dame)

Committee Member; attends monthly Troop Committee meetings

Takes minutes at Troop Committee meetings.  Provides draft copy to Chair for electronic distribution (e-mail). Makes (5) hardcopies to have on hand at each Committee meeting.

Chaplain (Gary Perrydore)

Committee Member

Advises Chaplain’s Aide to emphasize spiritual aspect of Scouting. Provides info to Scouts and Scouters regarding religious training and awards opportunities.

Equipment Chair (John Miller)

Participation in camping events and/or regular communication with Scoutmaster and Quartermaster.

Keeps track of troop equipment. Maintains inventory, makes recommendations for equipment to Troop Committee. (Currently done by Scoutmaster).

Newsletter Chair (Cheryl Auerbach)

Committee Member; attends Troop Committee meetings.

Collect, compile and distribute every-other-month troop newsletter. Tracks membership information.

 Medical Forms Coordinator (Cicie Miller)

Collects health forms prior to every campout

Works with outdoor chair to make sure everyone attending a campout has the appropriate health forms.

Collects Class1, 2 and 3 health forms as well as other required forms necessary for overnite campouts. Copies and sends health forms for every campout including summer camp.

 

Board of Review Coordinator (Optional)

Works with Advancement Chair to ensure that Boards of Review are conducted regularly and meet BSA guidelines.

Provides at least 2 opportunities a month for Scouts to participate in Board of Review for rank advancement

This person should have training/experience in BSA program and advancement procedures.

Court of Honor Refreshment Coordinator (Annette Zetterholm, Elaine Dew and Lynn Friman)

3 per year.

Helps PLC coordinate refreshments for Courts of Honor. Guides setup, and cleanup of refreshment table.

Eagle Court of Honor Refreshment Coordinators (Annette Zetterholm, Elaine Dew and Lynn Friman)

2-4 per year, as needed.

Works with Eagle Scout and parents to provide cake and punch for Eagle Court of Honor.

Uniform Exchange (Robin Dame)

4-6 times/year

Brings uniform exchange items to Courts of Honor and makes available to new Scouts Feb-April.

Class B shirt orders (Kelly Drake)

Before Summer Camp

Takes orders for Troop 457 Class “B” T-shirts and sweatshirts, collects payment, makes order and distributes.

Troop Pantry (Robin Dame)

Make inventory available for campouts (monthly).

Store non-perishable food/paper items left over from events; keep inventory; communicate available items to Scouts for upcoming campouts. (1 set of 12” x 30” shelves).

Popcorn Kernel (Kelly Drake)

Late Fall fundraising activity.

Organizes annual popcorn sale.

 

Saline Fair pop & popcorn sale (Cheryl and Lee Luckhardt)

Monday, Friday and Saturday evening of annual Saline Fair

Posts sign-up lists for adult-Scout teams to sell pop and popcorn in grandstands. Recruits help as needed. Oversees distribution of product and money collection.

MDOT Pick Up (Adam Liebowitz)

3 times (2 hours each) per year

Recruit Scouts to assist Kiwanis with Adopt-A-Highway clean up. There are 3 dates selected each year -May, July and September.

 

Scouting for Food

2 Saturdays per year

Organize Troop’s annual Scouting for Food drive.

Fundraising Coordinators (Kateri  Blankenship and Elizabeth Bargo)

Once or twice per year

Would help plan and implement any fundraising ideas that the Troop wishes to participate in.

Troop Webmaster (Tony Romero)

Weekly updates as needed

Responsible for designing and maintaining the Troop’s website and keeping it up to date. Posts newsletters, announcements and flyers in a timely manner and maintains the troop’s email lists.
